Traditional parking system  

Traditional car parking system features parking lots in most homes, offices, and recreational areas. This is a separate parking space developed for smooth entry and exits to organize the cars easily and reduce traffic. This system requires only less energy that too for lighting. Traditional parking spaces are completely reliable as they aren’t affected by the power failure.  

However, with increasing urban land scarcity and the number of cars on the road, the traditional system will not be sufficient, and it needs an alternative solution, that is when the automated parking system is designed. 

Automated parking system 

An automated parking system removes the driver from the parking spaces and requires less space. The car must be driven to the entry point where the passengers and also the driver will exit the car. After that, the car will be moved automatically to the space allotted to them in the stacked parking lot. This system can be either automatic or semi-automatic. In semi-automatic, it kind of needs human intervention, something like the person who is managing the garage. 

Comparison of traditional and automated parking system

Traditional parking may be simpler and not be affected by power failure, but it has a negative effect on fuel consumption which can be deliberately conserved in the automated parking system (APS). Parking space incurs both building and operational costs. An APS system incurs half of the cost spent in the traditional parking system. Construction cost is almost equal. Thus, the cost of operating APS is much lesser than the traditional system. This trait of APS will contribute to cost and fuel efficiency and towards the popularity of automated garages with respect to the increase in the demand for space and supply.  

     4. Space optimization 

In order to park the same number of vehicles, APS needs a space that is around 70% smaller than a conventional parking lot. This enables the parking developer to utilize the property for other uses such as the construction of new parking spots, the usage of additional areas for non-parking uses such as green spaces, etc. Since there is no need to account for the automobile being driven into the parking place, the width, depth, and space between parking spaces are drastically reduced in an APS. 

     5. Volume reduction  

Ramps and driving lanes are not necessary. There is no foot traffic in the region, hence there is no need for walkways, stairways, or lifts to serve pedestrians. The APS requires a lot less structure because there are no ramps or lanes for traffic. Many APS employs a steel framework (some also use thin concrete slabs) as opposed to the multi-story parking garage’s monolithic concrete architecture. These elements help to lower the costs of construction, and overall volume reduction. 


Traditional parking spaces will no longer be used or constructed with rising land prices and increased parking demands. The automated parking system is designed to be effective and satisfy the demand for the current parking situation. It needs less space than the traditional system, is cost-effective, has high fuel efficiency, does not need to build extra ramps and lanes, and many more. Simply APS outweighs the inexpensive traditional parking system with many benefits.
